OK, so I had a little Christmas Eve battle of Five Leagues From The Bordelrands. My Warband was down to just four members on their feet and ready to fight:Weppi, Kiport, Yammel, and Guldan. The Locals were supportive, allowing us to make an ectra Campaign Activity, so in addition toheping the Town Guard, a lot of hard work was done to refill the empty coffers. Tundaline and Drustan both recovered some more, and our Connections showed that there was a Quest available; no thank you, we only have four people on their feet!
But there is always Evil afoot, and just outside The Crossing was found an Outlaw Gang, lead by a creepy skeletal leader. Our Heroes were spotted by the ne'er-do-wells across a well-barricaded intersection, and the fight was on!
Early on, Weppi and Yammel advanced and were beset by the villain's slingers, but to no effect. The rest of the bad guys rushed forward, including a goup whose numbers were blurred by the ash in the air. Kipor and Guldan advanced behind Weppi and Yammel.
There were then several swirling melees after the slingers again failed anything effective, and the crossed weapons resulted in both Guldan and Yammel going down, as well as the untimely death of one of the Outlaws. Weppi and Kipor faced the remaining five enemies on their own.
The Outlaws acted first. In the ensuing clash of arms, the Outlaw leader and two of his companions fell before the might of the tortles. Weppi and Kipor both rushed forward to engage the slingers, who thought better of the fight and promptly fled the field.
Guldan was merely knocked out. Yammel, however, was quite dead. This was the second skirmish in a row where Our Heroes had lost a companion, and it was a bittersweet victory in light of this. There was a nicley balanced bastard sword in the skeletal hand of the Outlaw leader that would serve well for the warband, and in the mud a letter was found; the information within is something that clearly warrants some attention. Our Heroes must now start a Quest (after denying one earlier in the campaign turn!) As they settled back in to The Crossing to attend to Tundaline and Drustan, news travelled that the former Mayor of the ruined city was looking for adventirers to undertake another Quest. Is it the same Quest as the letter has started? We will have to heal up a couple of members and investigate further...
